Development of Algal Bio-solar Cell Inspired by Honeycomb Structures for Bio-electricity Production
Wanida Suwannasit and Narongsak Thalodpong’s Senior Project
In this study, Wanida Suwannasit and Narongsak Thalodpong explore the potential of nature-inspired structure systems for bioelectricity production from algal bio-solar cells. The study focuses on honeycomb-shaped, diamond-shaped, and planar structures, and tests two microalgal strains (Chlorella species and Chlorella vulgaris TISTR 8580) immobilized with formulated acrylic polymer on copper electrodes. Results show that nature-inspired structures, particularly the diamond-shaped structure paired with Chlorella vulgaris TISTR 8580 and honeycomb-shaped structure paired with Chlorella sp., can enhance current density generation for algal bio-solar cells. This research offers a promising approach to meeting our energy needs through clean and renewable sources.
